Sad Day for Gator Basketball

It's a sad day for Gators fans as they went one-and-done after Florida made their debut in the NCAA for the first time in three years. The Gators played in the first round of the tournament this afternoon with Brigham Young University. Although it was looking hopeful for the Florida team at first, the game went into double overtime, ending in a heart-breaking 99-92 loss for the Gators.

Associate head coach Larry Shyatt says despite the loss, the team still played hard against one of the top-scoring teams in the country. Although the outcome was less than expected, Florida still had top performers in the game. Freshman Guard Kenny Boynton lead the Gators in the tourney with 27 points. Forward Chandler Parsons gave the Gators an extra 20 points with 10 assists while Center Vernon Macklin made seven of nine field goal attempts. With all the hype before the of the Florida Gators Men's basketball team being back in the four-letter tournament, the local economy was hoping to see a boost in Gator gear sales. However, the fans took a less interested approach, and the numbers weren't showing the increase that was orginally expected. Gator Plus Manager Christina Roedenwall says it was suprise to many that the Gators to make it this far, leading to less than hopeful sales. With the basketball season officially over, the Florida fans are going to have to wait a while before they see the team in action again.
